The Power of Career Assessments to Find Your Direction

By Jason Vallozzi, Campus to Career Crossroads Many of us cannot live without a GPS device for daily directions to work, meetings, and dinner reservations, but we never consider a similar navigation tool for career guidance. Career assessments are a powerful, yet unutilized tool for self-awareness, understanding natural strengths, identifying compatible career paths, and recognizing work environments that complement interests. Career assessments will benefit students who are confused about career possibilities, assist professionals in career transition, and emphasize personal preferences that lead to job fulfillment and success. Unfortunately, many people do not consider a comprehensive career assessment to strategically plot their occupational paths. For more than ten years, I have been deeply involved with some of the industry’s leading career assessments. I have experienced and know the importance of using career assessments for hiring purposes in critical positions, rounding out leadership teams, understanding departmental culture, and assisting in employee professional development.
The benefits of a good career assessment are invaluable for all students, even if they have a specific career in mind. It exposes awareness about certain career options or additional job sectors that best fits an aptitude.
Since the inception of Campus to Career Crossroads, I have been passionate about procuring an effective professional career assessment that is a trusted partner to top companies throughout the country, not an informal Internet assessment that cannot validate its results. Most people do not realize that formal career assessments are rooted in scientific methodologies employing experts in the fields of psychology and data science to consistently review the validity and reliability of the results. My professional experiences with career assessments have helped me to realize that people make more informed decisions about college and professional career paths when this tool is utilized. The benefits of a good career assessment are invaluable for all students, even if they have a specific career in mind. It exposes awareness about certain career options or additional job sectors that best fits an aptitude. This is especially helpful for students who are undecided about a career or may be even considering multiple careers. For those students who are set on their career paths, it provides the needed confirmation that they are pursuing a career matched to their abilities and strengths. In turn, the family is given a level of comfort regarding their college investment. As for professionals, many now have to reinvent their career every five to seven years. The career assessment gives them the edge in knowing their natural strengths, interests, and unique abilities and how they may transition into other employment opportunities. My clients, from high school students to professionals, have been amazed with the level of depth, insight, and accuracy that these career assessments have provided. Understanding their personal strengths empowers them to tactically research college and long-term career opportunities. Career assessments provide a wealth of information that is valuable to high school students, college students, and accomplished professionals. As we have come to heavily rely on GPS capabilities to help us reach our destinations, it is important to consider the tool that will guide us in our career direction.
