PTC Member Profile: ColdSpark Adds Expanded Capabilities

ColdSpark is an award-winning Pittsburgh-based marketing, advertising and consulting firm. A political consulting agency at heart, ColdSpark Public Relations brings the urgency of a campaign to business communications. Drawing on a team of writers, designers and people with expertise in government, business and the arts, ColdSpark crafts messages with speed and precision and get your story out when it matters most: first. Here's a little more on the firm. Check it out: What was the impetus to expand beyond being a political consultancy? Our clients were asking for it, and we have the expertise! While campaigns and elections remain a vital component of our business model, our media relations and issue advocacy expertise is an inherent fit for non-political clients such as nonprofits, foundations, and corporations. As the demand for a more focused practice area kept growing, we wanted to seize the opportunity to expand our business and use the inherent skills of our current team. We hired a PR industry veteran to give us the additional expertise and time to expand the business allowing our agency to diversify our services and practice areas. Tell us about the new Public Relations department and its capabilities. Led by Darice Nagy, our Vice President of Public Relations, ColdSpark Public Relations offers a full-service menu of skills. Our capabilities include media relations, crisis communications, strategic planning, events and activations, executive speaking, media training, government relations, and issue advocacy. Darice is an experienced public relations professional whose background includes work at major public relations firms and editorial experience with Hearst Publishing. Most recently, Nagy opened her own, successful one-woman PR shop before joining ColdSpark. Darice utilizes her expertise - paired with an extensive relationship with a wide array of media contacts - to create unique strategies that are catered to each client and industry served, aiming to generate visibility campaigns that align with clients’ individual goals and objectives. How is ColdSpark's approach different from other firms? Because of our experience working on political campaigns, we work in a fast and nimble manner. We apply that approach – in essence – to each of our departments. With a team that offers a wide array of transferrable skills, ColdSpark can tackle projects efficiently to create winning strategies. What makes Pittsburgh a great city to do business? Pittsburgh is the best place in the country to build a company such as ours. It allows us to attract amazing talent, be within a short plane or car trip of most of the major media markets, and maintain the quality of life that Pittsburgh affords. We believe being outside the Boston-New York-Philadelphia-DC corridor gives us a major advantage of better understanding of how Middle America works. Plus, it is constantly evolving, allowing our team the opportunity to grow with the needs and growing business areas of our region. With some of Pittsburgh’s driver industries being in healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and technology we can build relationships to help service Pittsburgh’s new expanding economy.
