WHAT: Hempfield-based CyberCrunch, a data destruction and e-waste recycling company, will donate 10 refurbished laptops to Westmoreland County residents and organizations in need.

WHO: Laptop recipients are partners of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, including senior citizens who volunteer with United Way’s Open Your Heart to a Senior program and local pre-k centers who collaborate with United Way’s early education programs.

WHEN & WHERE: Laptop recipients, United Way staff and CyberCrunch staff will gather on Thursday, March 15 at 10 am at the company’s Greensburg facility, located at 1628 Roseytown Road, Unit 9. The morning’s agenda includes:

  • 10 am – Meet and greet
  • 10:15 am – Warehouse tour
  • 10:30 am – Presentation on identity theft security and e-waste recycling
  • 10:45 am – Presentation of laptops and pictures

WHY: As part of their e-waste recycling business, CyberCrunch promotes reuse of refurbished laptops and electronic equipment. CyberCrunch partnered with United Way to find local recipients who may benefit from a refurbished laptop, including seniors on fixed incomes and early education centers with limited budgets. Increased technology use can benefit both seniors and young students. Seniors can combat isolation and loneliness by making connections through social media and other online communication.

Seniors can also access helpful services like transportation, grocery delivery and health tracking. In the early education classroom, computers, laptops and tablets can provide students with customized, highly interactive learning experiences. Teachers can also use tools to plan lessons, assess student progress and continue their own professional development.
