Explore the Floor Visits GE Transportation

The most recent Pittsburgh Technology Council’s (PTC) Explore the Floor series featured GE Transportation in Grove City, Pa. PTC members learned more about GE Transportation’s advanced systems and processes while touring the factory floor. GE TransportationGE Transportation, a facility dedicated to remanufacturing engines is a 246,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility that employs 400 people. It’s not your traditional manufacturing facility, but a “brilliant” factory -- a technology-enabled plant where workers work smarter, faster and more reliably. The future is now at GE Transportation. Hundreds of machines now have sensors to monitor operations and productivity, identifying potential problems before they occur. The maintenance model is based on dynamic data to head off problems, keeping machines operating and reduced downtime by 20%. It created a system that operates on real-time needs. GE TransportationThe PTC’s next Explore the Floor event will meet up at MSA Safety Incorporated.
