Dressed for Success: 700 Shop Thrives With Deep Community Roots

In a world of increasing technology, retail stores have begun to see undeniable shifts in the shopping trends of their consumers. Now, with unlimited options right at one's fingertips, it is a true testament when a small business, like Indiana’s own 700 Shop, still manages to thrive.

If you ask the owner, Josh Rosenberger, to what he attributes the success of the men’s clothing store, he’ll say, “It’s 100% the support and loyalty of the people of the Indiana community.”

Previously Leon's Menswear, the 700 Shop was established in the 1960s. Anchoring a main cross section in downtown Indiana with easy access from both Philadelphia and Seventh Streets, the space has been a community staple for men's clothing needs for nearly a decade. Passersby enjoy the fashion-forward, inviting and festive window displays that change along with the seasons.

“I’ve worked at the shop in some capacity for nearly 20 years,” said Rosenberger. “I’ve had the honor of providing suits for many boys’ first holy communions or bar mitzvahs, assisting young men in selecting their prom tuxedos, guiding college graduates and beginning professionals on what to wear for that big job interview, fitting grooms for their weddings and dressing families after their loved ones have passed. It is a full-circle business based mainly on the connections I am fortunate to make with my customers. My staff and I have had the opportunity to help many families in the Indiana and surrounding communities at one point or another throughout their lives, and to me that means a lot.”

As the 700 Shop has evolved over the years, keeping up with the latest trends in both men’s and women’s fashion, expanding its physical space and adding an interactive online shopping presence, one thing has remained the same:  it’s commitment to the people of the Indiana community.

The 700 Shop boasts two floors of curated retail space. The main level focuses on options from formal to business-casual attire, including a large selection of sport coats as well as a spacious, recently remodeled, suit room. There is also a wide range of both men’s and women’s outerwear, apparel and accessories by brands like The North Face, Columbia, Hart Schaffner Marx, Adidas and Nike. The second floor loft highlights casual options like Levi’s jeans, sportswear and casual women’s apparel.

The 700 Shop also prides itself on providing its customers with professional on-site tailoring, the option to create custom made-to-order suits, and the ability to special order an impressive range of designer inventory. “There has been a lot of change throughout the last 20 years,” Rosenberger said. “Trends come and go, and technology continues to replace and enhance the way we do business, but we will always be committed to connecting with our customers, and building our community in a meaningful way. I think we have a very bright future ahead, and I am excited to help dress generations to come right here in downtown Indiana.”
